President Trump announced that scheduled United States air strikes against Iran have been cancelled after allies and Middle Eastern nations outlined potential parameters for a deal. The proposed agreement includes the total opening of the Strait of Hormuz and an end to Iran's nuclear threat, following assurances made by Iran's foreign minister.
Secretary of State Rubio told FOX News that while negotiations unfold, the Iranian regime must alter its traditional behavior. Rubio stated, "I think what does, the regime has to change. You may not have a regime change, but the regime have to change, the, the Iranian regime traditionally has been expeditionary. In essence, their view is they don't want to just govern Iran, they want to govern the region. They view them, they wanna export the revolution. That does have to change, and the only way you're gonna change that is if you make the price of it too high for them to be able to pay."
Prior to this diplomatic development, Iran attacked vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and launched fresh drone attacks at Kuwait. During a cabinet meeting at Camp David, President Trump expressed displeasure with the negotiations, noting, "I'm losing faith in them because they do lie and do, they do misrepresent. Well, the other day the five missiles were shot. We knocked them down, but we were in the midst of a negotiation. I mean, I'm waiting for Steve to call me. How's the negotiation going, and instead I got a call from Pete that they just shot five missiles at one of our bases in Jordan." Regional tensions remain high as past agreements have broken down.
