It didn't take long before a partisan divide emerged as Maryland state lawmakers convened a special legislative session Monday over a constitutional amendment for redistricting. Democratic and Republican legislative leaders held dueling press conferences in a divided State House, neither agreeing on the purpose of the rare meeting or why it's necessary. Democrats zeroed in on redistricting and established rules to stay focused. Republicans contend voters are more interested in affordability issues, and the number of people who signed up to testify on the bill backed up that claim with 22 in favor and 131 in opposition.
